Adsorption Of Different Materials Of Infusion Sets On Infusion Drugs
Jun 14, 2022
Intravenous infusion is a commonly used method in clinic, and its quality is directly related to the disease. Infusion sets are commonly used consumables in intravenous infusion. Their main materials can be divided into polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyolefin thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), ultra-low density polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). Due to the contact between the infusion set and the connector, the adsorption of its material on has increasingly become a hot spot. Clinical nurses' understanding of the characteristics of infusion set materials and the commonly used materials that are easy to be adsorbed by different materials is conducive to ensuring the effectiveness and safety of clinical medication. In view of this, this paper summarizes the research on the absorption effect of different materials of infusion sets on infusion.
1. PVC infusion set
The main materials of infusion sets are PVC and plasticizer dioctyl phthalate (DEHP). DEHP can accumulate in tissues, blood and body fluids and cause hepatotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, etc. as an endogenous interference factor, DEHP also has carcinogens. PVC infusion sets have the advantages of high strength, softness, transparency and low price. They have been used for a long time and a wide range. At present, some small and medium-sized hospitals still use PVC infusion sets, and there are some potential safety hazards in using PVC infusion sets. PVC material is alcohol soluble. At present, the European Union, the United States, Taiwan and other regions have banned the use of DEHP plasticized PVC infusion sets.
2. TPE infusion set
As a new substitute for PVC materials, TPE infusion sets are mainly composed of ultra-low density polyethylene polyolefin and thermoplastic elastomer. At present, there are only a few manufacturers in China. TPE infusion set has the advantages of saturated double bonds, no polar groups and ester plasticizers, safe and non-toxic to human body, no adsorption to, and ensuring curative effect.
3. PE infusion set
An infusion set with double-layer filter medium structure has strong dirt holding capacity, high filtration accuracy and low adsorption rate, which can effectively prevent the damage of particles to human body, reduce the stimulation of products to blood vessels, improve the purity of the transmitted liquid, so as to reduce the pain of puncture site, extravasation, vasospasm caused by stimulation of blood vessel wall, and avoid the interruption of infusion. At present, only a small number of domestic manufacturers produce, so clinical application is less.
4. PP infusion set
The infusion set made of this kind of material is rare in clinical application. It is mainly used for the production of infusion bottles, infusion bags and syringes. It is a relatively safe material, but it also has a certain adsorption on some.
